Today the comforts of our life, our culture, industries, war and peace, hospitals and health, communication and vehicles, rockets and space exploration, education and our schools – in one word, our entire civilization – is standing on technology.
Science and its application in technology is the bedrock on which our civilization is founded. If we do not possess the needed equipments of technology, we are doomed in every sphere – as humans or as a nation.
This world is moving forward through competition and this competition rides on the wheels of technology. One who has technology is the strong one; survives in the struggle and competition; and wins in the war and rules the world. One who is weak in technology, is defeated in this war and is destined to be overlorded by others.
In importance to our life as a human or as a nation, it is the technology that occupies the first place. What is science and what is technology? The answer is very simple.
Science tells us: there are four fundamental forces that exist in Nature and the harnessing of these forces in the service of humans is technology. There is nothing beyond this in science and beyond scientific technology.
Which are these fundamental forces? They are only four in number: electromegnatic, gravitational, nuclear weak and nuclear strong forces.
Out of these forces, electromegnatic force is fully understood, completely harnessed and mostly used in modern technology. The second one – gravitational force – is partly understood, most difficult to harness but most potent in utility and is not utilized at all. The third and the fourth forces are not well understood and therefore are not tamed for human service.
Out of all these forces, the gravitational force is though partly understood but is of the greatest importance for human progress in subduing material Nature. It is so powerful in significance that one who takes the lead in taming this force will rule the world. So far the scientists the world over are working to artificially generate gravitational waves (as electromegnatic waves are artificially generated in an oscillator) but without much success.
Till it is achieved, the force that rules the roost is only electromegnatic force – and its waves. The force of electromegnstic waves is harnessed through devices. The secret of this technology is the secret of these devices. What are devices?
Devices are made to generate, transmit and receive these electromegnatic waves to employ them in the service of humans. A device is an arrangement in specific ways of components like transisters, diodes, capacitors and resistance (which is called a circuit) intended to control, regulate and emplify the flow of these electromegnatic waves, which are placed on a suitable material.
From arranging these individual devices separately, they are today crammed in millions of tiny circuits on a thin wafer of suitable semiconductor material. They are called chips. These chips are the heart of all modern equipments in whichever field of technology you may imagine.
Fabrication of these crammed chips is done at the minitiaturised size in nanometer. One meter is equal to 1,000,000,000 nanometer! Or, one namometer is the “1,000,000,000” part of a meter! Today this miniaturisation of circuits is touching at 5 to 10 nanometer! This is awesomely small. This nonoscale fabrication is the coveted technology possessed only by advanced countries. Taiwan is one of them.
Suppose, you have all the necessary technology – like machenical parts and software – but not the required chips to power the equipment and execute the software command, what would be result?
Suppose, those who fabricate those latest chips refuse to part those coveted items with you, what would you do? You cannot do anything. You are doomed in the case of your emergency. This is the utility of fabricating semiconductor chips.
Our PM Narendra Modi has very wisely earmarked an amount of Rs 76,000 crores towards the fabrication of these chips in India. A great incentive is offered to any and all who can fabricate them in India – 50% of the investment for this industry will be provided by India as subsidy amount.
Currently these industries are based in Taiwan and US and work as supply chain of these critical components of every conceiveable equipment. To help set up such fabrication and work in India, the govt is also preparing a pool of 8,55,000 telanted scientific and technological work force to meet their need.
India has invited industries manufecturing semiconductor chips based in Taiwan, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufecturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), to come to India and has offered a number of alternative places in the country. Now both countries are working on side economic issues like free trade arrangement between the two. Both of these countries have friendly relations.
